Weaning is a big step in a little kitten's life. Until now, your kitten has received all the nourishment it needs from its mother's milk, so understandably, switching to solid foods for the first time is a significant development.
For some kittens, a sudden change in diet can cause stomach aches and diarrhea. While these symptoms will probably pass in a couple of days, they can cause your kitten plenty of discomfort and are not a happy introduction to your home.
To help minimise the chances of these symptoms appearing, gradually introduce your kitten to solid food over a period of three days. This feeding guide should always apply whether you are introducing solid food or simply changing between diets.
